Confederate

Selma

DIAMETER:  About 4.56 inches
GUN:  12-pounder Siege Rifle, 4.62-inch Caliber
LENGTH:  About 12 3/4  inches
WEIGHT:  About 36 pounds
CONSTRUCTION: Common Shell
SABOT:  Lead Band, secured by 3 Flanges
FUZING:  Bourbon-James Percussion

This is a very unusual projectile.  In the opinion of the author of this website, this projectile is a Confederate adaptation of the Selma or Read pattern employing a lead, cast on sabot. It seems that Tredegar Iron Works (in Richmond, Virginia) manufactured cannon that correspond to this type of projectile.  Comments are welcome
