3-inch Dyer Shell Side-loader
This unfired specimen was captured by the Confederates, reworked, fitted with a Confederate copper fuze plug, and drilled on the side to accept iron case-shot balls.  The side-loader plug is made of lead.  The lead sabot does not have flame grooves.  There are two tin crossed straps on the base of the sabot on this specimen.  Only a few side-loader Dyer projectiles are known to exist.
