US Ellsworth Bolt
There have been several battlefield specimens of this pattern recovered.  Due to the projectile's weight and size, it is believed to be for the Ellsworth breech loading rifle.  There is a square hole in the base approximately 1/4" wide and deep.  One specimen was found at Fort Hindman, Kentucky.  Lubricated twine was wrapped around the outside to be used for a sabot.
