This specimen is believed to have been manufactured at the Marshall Powder Mill, Texas, site. It was a Confederate attempt to copy the Federal Schenkl projectile pattern. There are twelve thin raised ribs on the tapered cone portion of the projectile body. The wooden sabot was held on by a thin iron plate. Since the Confederates lacked the formula for the manufacture of papier-mâché'; they substituted wood in its place.
