This fired projectile is similar to the projectile picture here. It has a small flat nose and two grooves on the tapered cone. This pictured specimen was recovered from April 1862 battle of Shiloh, Tennessee. The Confederates only had seven 3-inch rifles that were engaged during the Battle of Shiloh. The 3-inch rifles were found in the following units of the Army of the Mississippi: Stanford's Mississippi Battery, Gage's Alabama Battery, Hubbard's Arkansas Battery, and Pettus's Mississippi Flying Artillery.
