This unfired Archer has two vertical flame grooves on the iron projectile body. The lead sabot is also narrower than usually found on most Archer projectiles. Note the wooden fuze plug in the nose of the projectile. Archer projectiles are named after Dr. Junius L. Archer, owner of the Bellona Foundry, which was located in Virginia. This particular Archer was manufactured at the Selma Arsenal in Alabama and was recovered at that site.
