This is the most commonly encountered Absterdam projectile pattern. Most of these examples are found with the Absterdam fuze missing. There are no known battlefield recoveries of the Absterdam Pattern II projectiles known to the authors. Stamped into the brass sabot is "ABSTERDAM'S PATENT FEB. 23, 1864." John Absterdam's patent for this projectile was #41,668.
