This unpunched Federal
Bormann time fuze, has raised dots instead of numbers similar to the Braille system. This
pictured fuze is commonly referred to as a Bormann Braille time fuze. The dots are
grouped, from one to five, in the location where the numbers would be on a standard-style Bormann
fuze. No Confederate copies of this style fuze have been recovered. Projectiles
using this type Bormann fuze are uncommon in any caliber. The example below is a fixed 12-pounder Bormann fuzed ball. This is similar to how fixed-ammunition was manufactured during the Civil War. |
