The sources of the field
The study of Civil War artillery rests on a body of literature: the period ordnance manuals and gunnery texts, the official reports and the Official Records, and the modern identification guides and histories that build on them. A bibliography brings these together.
Knowing and using the right sources, primary where possible, is the foundation of accurate identification and research, and the site's bibliography lists the standard works.
