Moving by hand

The drag rope was a stout rope with a hook at one end and hand loops along its length. Hooked to a carriage, it let a crew or a party of men haul a gun by hand, working it into position or over ground where the team could not go or was not available.

Drag ropes were essential in siege work and in rough or confined ground, and every piece carried them among its equipment.
