Cataloguing the collections
Museums that hold ordnance have published descriptive catalogues of their collections, and these describe and identify surviving guns and projectiles, often with dimensions, markings, and history. The catalogue of the West Point Ordnance Museum is a well-known example.
Such catalogues serve as references for identifying similar objects and for studying the range of ordnance that survives in institutional hands.
