A heavy Parrott

The 200-pounder Parrott rifle, of 8-inch bore, was among the largest of the banded Parrott guns, throwing a shell of about two hundred pounds. Guns of this size served in the heavy siege batteries and seacoast works, notably in the prolonged Federal operations against Charleston.

Like the smaller Parrotts it was cast iron reinforced with a wrought-iron breech band, cheap for its power but subject, under the heavy charges, to the muzzle bursts that dogged the type.
