William Wade was a United States ordnance officer whose careful experiments on the strength and quality of iron and other gun metals contributed to the understanding needed to cast large, sound cannon. His metallurgical work connected with the experiments of Thomas Rodman.
Associated with the Fort Pitt Foundry, Wade helped bring a more scientific approach to the manufacture of heavy iron ordnance in the mid-nineteenth century.
