Stamped into the nose of this projectile and into the bottom of the copper sabot
is the letter "G", which indicates Selma Arsenal manufacture. Similar
projectiles have been recovered with the letter "R" stamped into the nose and
sabot of the projectile. The significance of this letter "R" is unknown to the
authors. Projectiles of this Sub-pattern have been recovered from Milledgeville,
Georgia, and Selma, Alabama. The base of the solid-copper sabot plate is slightly concave
as is typical of this projectile's sabot system.
