This specimen has a more rounded nose. The projectile shown here was recovered
from Milledgeville, Georgia. The Official Records, Series I, Volume
XLIV, Report number 90 of Colonel William Hawley, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry, states that on
or around November 22, 1864, Hawley's troops threw 170 boxes of fixed artillery ammunition
into the Oconee River Milledgeville, Georgia, (the capital of Georgia during the war), also
destroying the weapons of warfare that the Confederates had stored in Milledgeville. The
letter "G" is stamped into the copper sabot.
