James Pattern I, Sub-pattern II
This pictured specimen is an example of the James Pattern I, Sub-pattern II
projectile. This sub-pattern is commonly called a tie-ring James due to the visible ring
extending below the base of the projectile body. The visible small notches, located in the
raised portion of the projectile's ribbed body, were developed in an attempt to improve
the chances of the lead sabot remaining attached to the projectile body during firing.
