This fired Archer is similar to the specimen pictured here, but without the lead sabot. Note the two deep grooves on the tapered cone and the distinct casting flaw on the projectile's iron body. Note the casting flaw on the projectile's side. This pictured Archer variety is believed by the authors to be one of the most common Archer projectiles known. Projectiles of this variety have been recovered from the April 1862 Shiloh, Tennessee, battlefield. |
