This fired Archer projectile is similar to
the picture specimen here, but is missing the lead
sabot, which was typically lost during firing. Note that there are three grooves on the
straight cylindrical base which helped hold the lead sabot on the tapered base. This
Archer projectile variety also was recovered from the 1862 Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee.
